Creating a project schedule is not a single step — it is the culmination of several interrelated processes. The PMP exam tests your understanding of the entire schedule development workflow, from defining activities through establishing the schedule baseline. Candidates who treat scheduling as "just making a Gantt chart" consistently underperform on exam questions in this area.

Step 1: Plan Schedule Management
Before any scheduling work begins, you need a schedule management plan. This subsidiary plan defines how the schedule will be developed, managed, and controlled. It specifies:
