Audit: Evaluating Process Compliance

A quality audit is a structured, independent review that determines whether project activities comply with organizational and project policies, processes, and procedures. It focuses on the process — how work is being done, not the work product itself.

• Part of the Manage Quality process (quality assurance).
• Conducted by internal or external auditors who are independent of the team being audited.
• Evaluates whether processes are being followed, whether they are effective, and whether improvements can be made.
• Identifies best practices, gaps, and non-conformances in processes.
• Results feed into lessons learned and process improvement.

• An independent team reviewing whether the project follows the defined change control process.
• A compliance team verifying that procurement follows organizational procurement policies.

Testing: Verifying Functionality and Performance

Testing is a quality control activity that investigates whether a product or system performs as intended under specified conditions. While inspection looks at conformance to requirements, testing often involves operating the product to discover defects or verify behavior.

• Can range from unit testing and integration testing to system testing and user acceptance testing.
• Often requires test plans, test cases, test environments, and test data.
• Produces measurable results — pass/fail for each test case, defect counts, performance metrics.
