RACI Matrix
The RACI Matrix (Responsibility Assignment Matrix) is a tool used to clarify roles and responsibilities for project tasks and deliverables.
RACI Definitions
- R — Responsible: The person(s) who do the work to complete the task
- A — Accountable: The person who is ultimately answerable for the task's completion. Only ONE person can be Accountable per task.
- C — Consulted: People whose opinions are sought (two-way communication)
- I — Informed: People who are kept up to date on progress (one-way communication)
RACI Rules
- Every task must have exactly one Accountable person
- A task can have multiple Responsible people
- Avoid too many C's and I's — it slows decision-making
- If someone has no R, A, C, or I for a task, they're not involved
